Transfer - Important to Know

Learn important information related to Transfer requests to get the most out of the feature.

Letters of Direction (LOD)

If transferring funds to another investment account, the account holders must be the same. If the names are different, a letter of direction must be attached to the ticket. This is not required for transfers from/to a joint account where the account is one of the two joint holders.

You can find any LOD's that you need on the Portal. Under Documents -> Servicing Documents -> LOD

 

Registered Retirement Income Fund (RIF)/ Life Income Fund (LIF) Unlocking 

Whenever submitting a request for a LIF/ RIF unlocking, please ensure to attach the correct documentation. Unlocking forms vary depending on the legislation that the plan is registered under. 


Forms to Unlock a Federal Locked-In Plan

  • Form 1 - Attestation regarding withdrawal based on financial hardship
  • Form 2- Attestation Regarding Spouse/Common-Law Partner
  • Form 3- Attestation of Total Amount Held in Federally Regulated Locked-in Plans

Forms related to Ontario Locked-In Plan

  • Financial Hardship (LIRA & LIF)
    • FHU 1: Application for Medical Expenses, including renovation to principal residence for medical reason
    • FHU 2: Application for arrears or rent or mortgage on a principal residence
    • FHU 3: Application for first and last months’ rent for principal residence
    • FHU 4: Application for Low Expected Income
  • NON Financial Hardship (LIF)
    • Form 5.2 - 50% unlocking
    • Form 5 - unlocking due to small amount/short life expectancy/Amount exceeding Income Tax Act

  • NBIN 166: Alberta One-Time 50% unlocking from LIRA
  • Form 7: Pension Partner Waiver to Permit Up to 50% Unlocking From a Pension Plan on Establishment of a Life Income Type Benefit Account or Life Income Fund 
  • Form 10: Pension Partner Waiver to Establish a Life Income Fund from a Locked in Retirement Account
  • Form 13: Pension Partner Waiver to Permit Unlocking From a Locked in Product Due to Shortened Life Expectancy or Non Residency
  • Form 14: Pension Partner Waiver to Permit Up to 50% Unlocking from a Locked in Retirement Account on Establishment of a Life Income Fund or Transfer to a Life Income Type Benefit Fund 

If the clients RIF/LIF legislation is Alberta, please note that the unlocking takes place before the roll over.

  • Form 1 - Spouse´s Waiver to Permit Unlocking 
  • Form 3 - Spouse´s Consent to Transfer to a LIF

  • Form 2 - Waiver of Survivor or Death Benefit

  • Form 5A - Waiver of 60% Joint survivor pension for pension plan or locked in retirement Account
